The temple is renowned as one of the pacha mahabhutas where shiva is present in the vayu form. and the name of the temple is derived from the three loyal worshippers of Shiva, the spider, the snake and the elephant. and their tale of penance and boon is the myth that has transformed this temple into a major devotional site.
