In the depths of the lofty Nilagiri Mountains, are sprawling grasslands, dense forests and miles and miles of tea gardens that have made Ooty a famous tourist destination. The mountain train journey that makes its way through hair-raising curves and terrifying tunnels, chugging along deep gorges teeming with verdant vegetation is an ideal welcome to this exciting hill station.

The Ooty experience is centered around its prestigious tea, be it the annual Tea and Tourism Festival or a simply a nice cup of tea enjoyed while watching a sunrise. Fortunately, great effort is being made to maintain the precarious ecosystem of this part of the region. To this end, plastic carry bags have been banned here for years now.

Buns, cakes, home-made chocolate and fudge at the local bakeries, and tea tasting at the many tea plantations complete the Ooty food experience.
