0 Posted by - April 12, 2014 - Culture, Rearview Mirror

We started the day by witnessing Sunrise over the holy River Ganga. We then visited Anand Bhawan, the ancestral family home of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

From Allahabad, we then drove to Lucknow and visited the Bada Imambara and Samajik Parivartan Prateek Sthal built by Mayawati, along the way.

Origin: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Destination: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Distance Covered:  320  kms

States Covered: Uttar Pradesh

We saw a naked Digambar Jain muni walking on the highway. A well built man, he was talking on his mobile phone while walking! (see photo)

We had Bilva (Shiva’s holy tree) fruit juice in Allahabad, something not usual for city dwellers. The English name for Bilva is Bael, also called ‘stone apple’ as its rather large fruit is like pale yellow when ripe.

Entered Lucknow and went straight to the famous monuments Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Satkhanda, The Clock Tower, and The Residency.

We finished the day with a visit to the grand Samajik Parivartan Prateek Sthal, built by Mayawati.
