Day 49: Chennamkary to Madurai

We travelled through the backwaters of Kerala to Kanyakumari, and then drove up towards the temple town of Madurai, past the electricity-generating windmills. The monsoon rains greeted us as we exited the state of Kerala and entered Tamil Nadu near Nagercoil. The ferocity of the rain turned the roads into rivers, but and our Mahindra Scorpio waded through the them with effortless ease. Perhaps our prayers with porridge making by women on the roadside in Tamil Nadu helped!

We also halted to take pictures at the southernmost tip of India, which is also the end of the Western Ghats.

Origin: Chennamkary
Destination: Madurai
Distance Covered: 519 kms

States Covered: Kerala, Tamil Nadu

Chennamkary; Poopally; Trivandrum; the beautiful beaches of Kovalam; Nagarcoil; and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, at Kanyakumari.
We interviewed the owner of a small hotel on the highway, before Madurai.
