Gujarat

Chorwad is popular and picturesque beach in Gujarat that used to be a favorite summer retreat of the Nawabs of Junagadh.  Interestingly its name literally translates to ‘village of thieves’. The Regional Governor of Junagadh, built his summer palace, Daria Mahal. here and the village remained under his rule till independence. Then built with a blend of Italian and Muslim architectural styles, today it remains in a ruined state. The beach itself is unsafe for swimming, but it is relatively clean, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the ocean breeze. The prominent industrialist, Dhirubhai Ambani, is from this village.
