Day 29: Lucknow to Dehradun

We drove across the remaining length of Uttar Pradesh into Uttarakhand today. From Lucknow through Moradabad to Dehradun. Along the way we saw intense political activity as the Lok Sabha General Election campaigning was on, and we could get a keen sense from people on how they intended to vote.

We also interviewed families and women to understand their livelihood choices.

At nigh fall when we crossed the Ganga again at Haridwar it was like meeting an old friend again, since we first saw her in West Bengal as we crossed into the north east, then as we entered Bihar, then at Varanasi, then at the Sangam in Allahabad. What a mighty river she is!

Origin: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Destination: Dehradun, in Uttarakhand
Distance Covered: 548 Kms

States Covered: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand

By sheer accident we found an old Shiva Temple on the roadside. When we went in, a gentleman called out in Tamil, and welcomed us in! He had spotted the Tamil Nadu number-plate of our Mahindra Scorpio. He told us that he and his brothers were priests in The Rameswaram Temple in Tamil Nadu. The Shiva Temple was looked after by his aged parents who lived on the premises. He had come to meet them. The temple was built many years ago by a local landlord.
Interview with the Rameswaram Temple priest.
