At some point of time in our lives, all of us would have seen Christians from various sects praying in local churches, and going to Sunday mass. Most of us also have Christian friends, we celebrate Christmas, and take the day off on Good Friday, and look forward to Easter Sunday.
But have we paused to think about the origins of Christianity in India, and contemplated on Christian culture and beliefs?
Contrary to popular perception, Christian roots in India, date back to times well before the Portuguese and British colonization of our country. St Thomas, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus arrived in 42 AD on the coast of Kerala, and the foundation for the church that still stands on Mount St. Thomas today, was laid in 1547!
Even today, his remains are kept in this church, drawing Christians and non-Christians alike to visit this beautiful place.
