Large Blog ImageFARAKKA

West Bengal

Farakka is a township that is home to the longest barrage in the world, which has recently been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Indian government constructed the Farakka Barrage across Ganges River in 1961 to control the flow of water into Bangladesh and to protect port Kolkata against siltation.

The Farakka Barrage Township has the Nishindra Village that is known for its high literacy rate. Lovely huge orchards surround the town and the National Highway (NH-34) passing through the town is a favorite cycling and biking place for tourists. With a pleasant weather all year round, Farakka is a great place to experience the Barrage itself, an island and a deer park.
