Day 40: Vadodara to Maheshwar

Today we traveled from Vadodara – the third largest city in Gujarat, to Maheshwar on the north bank of the Narmada River, in Madhya Pradesh. Maheshwar was the capital of the Malwa kingdom during the reign of Maratha Holkar until 1818 when Malhar Rao Holkar III shifted the capital to Indore.

We visited the hand looms at REHWA Society, that produce the famous Maheshwari Saris.

We visited the Ahilyabai Holkar Fort which has a museum attached.

We went round the Maheshwar Temple and the Narmada Ghats where we stayed till after sunset.
