PORBANDAR
Gujarat
Porbandar is a heritage town of Gujarat, located on a scenic sea coast with a fine beach and beautiful villas. The sight of flamingos going about their daily activities in a playful manner enriches the coastal setting. A thriving port in the Mughal period, today it stands as a prosperous town whose architecture is characterized by a preference for stone over wood for building.
This city is ubiquitously famous as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. A glimpse into his childhood and life can be found in the form of old photographs, his very few possessions and books, either by him or relating to him, that are preserved in a small museum at the site of his birth. According to folklore, this city was also the foremost link of the great friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudhama.
